TP ICAP’s digital assets arm has rehired a head of platform operations after the digital trading arm of the British inter-dealer broker doubled earlier this week the number of cryptoasset custodians connected to its platform.

The inter-dealer broker has rehired Chay Pollard four years after he left the firm’s EMEA client services team, according to sources.

Since leaving the inter-dealer broker in 2018, Pollard has held technology and analytics roles at BGC Partners and Goldman Sachs, and re-joined TP ICAP from Factset, where he was an account manager in the analytics and trading business.

TP ICAP declined to comment on the hire.

The appointment emerged after TP ICAP Digital Assets on Monday announced it has added two custodians to its spot cryptoasset trading platform. The firm has onboarded BitGo and Komainu to its custody network, after previously confirming the involvement of Fidelity Digital AssetsSM and Zodia Custody.

In its results presentation earlier this month, the firm said it expected to launch its electronic spot platform and settlement infrastructure by the middle of this year, subject to regulatory approval, and that the platform would offer settlement services in tokenised assets from 2023.

“Adding established cryptoasset custodians of BitGo and Komainu’s calibre marks another big step forward for our cryptoasset platform," Duncan Trenhome, co-head of Digital Assets at TP ICAP, said in a statement on Monday. "Both market-leading custodians share our vision for the future of financial market infrastructure, and we look forward to working with them as we prepare the platform to go live.”

Speaking to Global Investor in October, Simon Forster, co-head of Digital Assets at TP ICAP, said a range of digital asset custodians will be a key attribute of the spot platform.

The firm last week said it had added a fifth market-maker, Hudson River Trading, to support the over-the-counter spot platform.
