Current role: Eursostoxx broker at TPICAP
First role: Middle office support staff at TPICAP
I came to TP ICAP (bit of background): I joined at the age of 18, entering a role within TP ICAP Middle office, a trade support role. Several years later, after taking my exams, I moved onto the Eurostoxx Desk. Since then I've focused on developing client relationships, cultivating new business strategies and opportunities for the company.
My proudest moment at TP ICAP: TPICAP held a ‘She Can Be’ event, an initiative that was set up to support young women, aged 14 – 18, from networks across Teach First, The Girls’ Network, Place2Be and Young Enterprise. I had the chance to meet the girls and share my own experiences and offer advice. It felt like a pinnacle moment within my carer so far, to get the opportunity to highlight other avenues and options available to the next generation.
My inspiration is (can be a person known or famous): My mum taught me the importance of work ethic from a young age, she worked full time whilst raising two girls. Still now, I wonder how she managed to juggle everything and never miss a school event. Her unwavering support and encouragement in everything I do is the foundation for the woman I am today.
If I could change one thing to advance women in the workplace: Altering the environment on the broking floor, to encourage women to feel confident enough to follow a career. In order to do this we need to establish goals for gender diversity, flexibility in working formats, basing roles on who is best for the job, amplify the female voice in the right way by offering equality between men and women. The choices we make today will have an impact on gender equality for decades to come.
Advice to my younger self: Eradicate the limitations we set for ourselves as females. Imposter syndrome is something that women are more inclined to suffer with. So, my advice, Apply for that role, what’s the worst that can happen? The answer is ALWAYS no, IF you don’t ask. Determination, preparation, and hard work are key attributes to reaching your end goal.
