Women in Focus: Dawn Tan
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.
Current role: Head of APAC Operations
First role: My first role out of university was actually Accounting Trainee with an Audit firm. The three years of Chartership training flew past before I knew it. It was a great way for me to ease into working life starting with a bunch of same age peers and essentially continuing to enjoy a somewhat extension of university life!
I came to TP ICAP (bit of background): After 16 years in Investment Banking I really wanted to find a firm that is structurally leaner, simpler and focused on the purpose for its people. Being based in APAC, I also enjoy the global culture that connects the organisation. So important when right mix of people finds purpose, you get stable velocity, sustainable pace. All key corporate essence for me when making my choice to join TPICAP.
My proudest moment at TP ICAP: Everyday is a proud moment, when you know that something that you’ve invested to resolve makes a difference to someone or a situation.
My inspiration is (can be a person known or famous): Serena Williams, not only is she an epic athlete, she’s made her brand iconic, her influence for women on strength and body positivity intertwined with her outrageous fashion on courts. Brings together so many elements of admirable values, grit, resilience, creativity, dare to be different.
If I could change one thing to advance women in the workplace: #1 - Focus on your employee’s strengths and not stereotypes. Lead with the destination in mind, be it a diversity ratio or to empower women in certain roles. More mentorship. More role modelling.
Advice to my younger self: Say more “YES” to opportunities. Say more “No” to doubts.
